Hier gibt es eine ausführliche Liste von Podcatchern (Podcasting Tools). Beschreibungen finden sich teils in deutscher Sprache, teils auf Englisch.
Der folgende Artikel stammte aus der Wikipedia, wurde aber inzwischen gelöscht und in andere Artikel aufgeteilt.
Podcatcher - oder auch Podcast-Clients - sind Programme, die nach per Podcast-Feed abonnierten Podcasts schauen und diese herunterladen. Mit ihnen kann man auch gleich die Dateien abspielen. Meist kann man die Intervalle, in denen nach neuen Episoden des abonnierten Podcasts geschaut wird, im Podcatcher einstellen. Oft kann man über den Podcatcher auch sein Abspielgerät synchronisieren, d.h. der Podcatcher lädt neue Episoden aller abonnierten Podcasts automatisch herunter und überspielt sie direkt auf den MP3-Player. Da ein Podcatcher im Prinzip nur ein RSS-Reader ist, der mit den in den RSS-Feeds enthaltenen Audio-enclosures auf sinnvolle Weise umgeht, sind viele RSS-Reader auch geeignet, um Podcasts anzuhören. Die untenstehenden Programme fallen in beide Kategorien:
- Podcatcher im strengeren Sinne: Sie haben eine eigene "Datenbank", in die sie die Episoden eines Feeds automatisch herunterladen und ggf. auf einen MP3-Player hinüberschubsen. Vorteilhaft, wenn man immer ALLE Episoden eines Podcasts anhören will (und/oder eine Flatrate hat). Oft stellen Podcatcher dieser Art jedoch die Zusatzinformationen, die im Feed enthalten sind, nicht (oder unvollständig) dar. (Beispiele: Nimiq, jpodder ...)
- Podcatcher, die "bessere" RSS-Reader sind: Hier muss man in der Regel die Episoden, die man hören will, aktiv anfordern, indem man auf den enclosure-Link klickt. Meist haben sie keine interne Datenbank zum Speichern der mp3-Files, man speichert sie also direkt auf der Fesplatte oder auf den MP3-Player. Vorteilhaft, wenn man sich selektiv Episoden eines Feeds anhören will. (Bsp.: Thunderbird, Opera, ...). Ggf. ist zusätzlich ein Download-Manager hilfreich.

- Armangil's podcatcher is a Command line interface podcatcher programmed in Ruby programming language|Ruby. GPL License.
- Azureus is a Java based BitTorrent client that needs a plugin to support podcatching. Either plugins RSS Feed Scanner or RSSImport. Azureus has a GUI Interface.
- BashPodder short Bash shell script that uses the Keep it Simple Stupid approach to podcatching. Interface is Command line interface and a Graphical user interface with an addon. GPL License. Also, the author requests people to submit their changes back to him to post on the website.

- jPodder's name is short for Java-Podcatcher. Graphical user interface.

- PerlPodder is created in the Perl programming language. Command line interface. GPL License.
- podcatcher on a stick is installed directly on a MP3 player/USB flash drive and downloads from the internet when pluged into a USB port. GPL License.
- PodGet is a Bash shell script. Command Line Interface. GPL License.
- PodNova client software that makes podcasting easy with "one-click subscribing to podcasts". This works with the website PodNova. GPL License.
- Raggle has a Text user interface. BSD license.
- Synclosure has a Command line interface.
- Wizz RSS News Reader is a Firefox web browser extension that does podcasting.
